Leona Heights Real Estate
Leona Heights is the area below the Skyline Hills and above Redwood Heights. Named after the Mountain Lion, this area got it name because used to be home to a significant Mountain Lion population (as other parts of the Oakland hills were). Other than Mountain blvd, the other main distinguishing landmark of Leona is the Rock Quarry which is now home to the Jade Townhome development. Many couldn't believe that they were going to develop the Quarry, because of how steep the terrain is there. However the engineers obviously have figured out a way to stabilize the ground underneath. Currently they are still building units there, and there are actually several luxury homes which are being built along Ridgemont.
The entire District of Leona Heights takes up just under a half a mile, and the population is right around 1500 which makes it a small Community. Most homes in Leona Heights are larger and built in the mid 1900's, with many Ranch style and other Mid-Century types of architecture. Some homes here have absolutely amazing views..some of the best in all of Oakland I would say. There are no obstructions, in many parts which allow panoramic views of all three Bridges.
Because Leona Heights is not in a flat area, walkability is not as good as many of the lower lying areas but the tradeoff is a more quiet neighborhood with less traffic.
