So you've decided to hire an Oakland Realtor to help you buy or sell your home. So what is the difference between a real estate agent and a Realtor? The term "Realtor" is used widely, however it's important to note that every real estate agent is not a Realtor. The Realtor designation is held only by those who are members of the National Association of Realtors (NAR). Realtors have access to a variety of information to keep us abreast of market trends, new legislation, and the NAR serves as a huge source of knowledge on a vast array of subjects related to the real estate industry. Most importantly however, Realtors are held to a higher standard of ethics when serving our clients. There is a Realtors code of ethics that outlines the type of conduct that is to be expected from all members...the code goes well beyond the normal protections of the law when it comes to protecting consumers from unethical and or illegal behavior.
So long story short, the purchase or sale of property is one of the most significant transactions you will ever complete, so it makes sense to go with a Realtor as opposed to an agent with no designations. Of course the simple fact that someone is a Realtor doesn't mean there aren't differences in competency and experience level..and this is why it's important to ask questions when speaking to Realtor you are thinking about working wiith.
