Maxwell Park Real Estate
Maxwell Park real estate is bordered by 55th Avenue, High Street, Foothill Boulevard and Macarthur Boulevard. Maxwell Park was originally a residence park owned by merchant John P. Maxwell. His plan was to later sell the land for the purpose of housing, and he helped make this happen by having the 55th avenue streetcar line run all the way into the intersection of Fleming and Madera Avenue. In addition to this, the Southern Pacific electric lines ran a few blocks from the entrance to the park which made transportation to San Francisco more convenient.
Maxwell Park homes vary in architecture from Italian, Spanish, French and English influences. Mediterranean and English Tudor are the predominant syles. As with much of the rest of Oakland, the architects who were designing the homes in Maxwell Park were expressing the most popular architectual influences at the time. There is a healthy mix of younger couples and more established families living in Maxwell Park, lately the prices there have risen significantly. There are few neighborhoods in Oakland that offer the character of Maxwell Park for the price point of the homes.
The residents of Maxwell Park in the early days consisted of many industrial workers who were employed by the auto plants which fueled the growth of the area. Perhaps the best known resident of Maxwell Park was Bruce Lee, who lived with his wife in a home on Monticello avenue.
